The Benefits of Not Getting Even

Current bankroll: $4.73
FPPs: 2,147

So I'd had a good day: placed in a tourney and a couple of profitable 2-table 2c/4c limit holdem sessions. Sat down for the 10pm 20FFP tourney in a decent frame of mind, won a few hands, built my way up from 1,500 chips to 5500. That's comfortably enough to post and fold your way in to the money.

With about 50 players left between me and the cash, I woke up in late position with QQ. One early limper - he had about 9k, I was down to 4k by this time. I stuffed the whole lot in. 9k thought for a bit and then called for nearly half his stack with A9. Hit his ace on the turn. Out I went.

For fuck's sake! I was livid with A9, with myself, with the cards, everything. I immediately sat down at a couple of limit tables. It was time for some serious revenge. I was going to smash the shit out of them.

And then I did something brilliant. Before the BB came round to me I left both tables, shut down Stars and called it a night. You can't play limit poker angry. No limit's a different matter: there a bit of cussedness can serve you well. But online limit poker is a numbers game, especially when you're playing for micro-stakes. Do the sums, evaluate the situation, make the right play, move on to the next hand. Revenge is for suckers.
